Sorry Day March

Two Year 11 Aboriginal Studies students from St John the Evangelist High School, Nowra, Alyce and Lucy opened the Sorry Day March held at Kiama Quarry in May this year.

Following the girls' speeches and welcome to the Elders, over 200 people marched from the quarry, the site of an Aboriginal camp, down the main street to the Kiama Council Chambers. There, flags were raised, special guests spoke and local students performed songs of Reconciliation. Alyce and Lucy's speeches reveal their passion for the subject and their belief in the need for greater education and awareness of Indigenous culture and issues.
