Harmony day Poster Competition 2006

The Education Task Force of B'nai B'rith Anti Defamation Commission in conjunction with the Chinese Australia Forum is organising a Harmony Day poster competition open to all students in NSW to support Harmony Day 2006.

The Honourable Sir William Deane, former Governor-General of Australia, has endorsed the competition with the following statement

"The Harmony Day Poster Competition has, as its principal objective, the promotion of harmony between all members of our Australian community regardless of colour, culture, tradition, country of origin or religion. That objective should, in my view, be the most fundamental and important objective of our vibrant nation and all who constitute it. In that regard, we Australians should never forget that, apart from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, we are all immigrants or descended from immigrants.

I warmly encourage the students of our schools to participate in the competition and thank their teachers and them for their efforts in that regard."

In the 2005 competition more than 2000 poster entries were received. The winning 2005 posters were displayed publicly at NSW Parliament House and Sydney Town Hall - giving the students' work well-deserved exposure.

The theme for the 2006 poster competition is MAKING OUR WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

The purpose of the competition is to highlight one or more of the following:

  • A society that promotes harmony by combating prejudice and discrimination on the basis of religion, gender, ethnic origin or age
  • A society that encourages respect for difference and diversity, including respect for its diverse languages, cultures and religions
  • A society that promotes access and equity for disadvantaged and minority groups
  • A society that recognizes the qualities of different cultural and ethnic groups
  • A society that is considerate and has support and understanding for those who are less fortunate
