I'm a Senator in the Australian Parliament representing the Australian Democrats in NSW and Deputy Leader of the Australian Democrats.

How old are you?

38 years old.

Where were you born?

Macksville, NSW.

Describe your cultural/religious/ethnic family background

A member of the Gumbayynggir people of Northern NSW.

Have you ever experienced or witnessed racism? How did it make you feel?

Yes, it made me feel angry but determined to get service.

What did you do about it?

Stood my ground until finally served.

What advice would you give kids experiencing racism?

Understand that the problem is theirs - not yours. Be yourself and always respectful and eventually you get that in return.

What kind of Australia would you like to see for our children?

A fair, decent and understanding society where respect and non-discrimination are the highest values promoted.
