World Refugee Day (WRD) 2005

World Refugee Day (WRD) on 20 June is fast approaching and UNHCR has just launched a new WRD page on its Australian website.

The theme for World Refugee Day in 2005 is 'courage', the courage of refugees not just in enduring the dangers and violence of the crises that made them refugees, but also the courage refugees show in rebuilding their lives and contributing to society in difficult or unfamiliar circumstances.

This year's campaign, It takes courage to be a refugee' includes five 'portraits of courage' - five individuals from five different regions. To find out more about this year's theme, order free campaign materials, or see ideas on how to get involved, please visit WRD

Schools, community groups, NGOs and government agencies are invited to help celebrate WRD this year by sending in details of events for listing on the WRD website. Please send the details to aulcapi@unhcr.ch in the following format, and type WRD event listing in the subject field of your email:
state(ie state in which the event is taking place)
event's title and a brief description(include guest speakers)
location and address
date and time
contact details (telephone number and/or website address, or attach a flyer)
