Parent and community involvement

Aboriginal Home/School Liaison Officer

These officers assist in encouraging parents and carers to participate in educational decision making and provide a link between Indigenous students and families in schools that do not have an Aboriginal Education Worker.

Community Events

The Canberra Multicultural Festival was founded in 1999 from an amalgamation of the Canberra and Multicultural Festivals. The Festival which is held from March 4-20 focuses on celebrating the founding of the National Capital with an acknowledgement of the significance of our cultural diversity.

Indigenous Education Consultative Body

This body comprises a panel of community representatives who provide advice on policies and programs relevant to Indigenous Education for the ACT Department of Education and Community Services.

Racial Abuse Hotline Cards

These multilingual information cards provide emergency contact numbers for reporting incidents of racial harassment. The cards are produced and distributed with community assistance.

UNESCO Associated Schools Network

The UNESCO Associated Schools Network incorporates individual school programs which are designed to:

  • increase knowledge of world problems and international co-operation
  • develop international understanding through the study of other peoples and cultures
  • strengthen understanding and observance of the principles of human rights.
