Anti-Racism Contact Officer Network
The Anti-Racism Contact Officer Network includes school-based staff who are
the designated contact officers for complaints of racism in schools. Each
contact officer has completed training conducted by the ACT Department of
Education and Community Services in techniques to combat racism in schools
including interview techniques for the resolution of complaints.
Curriculum Executive Officers (Equity and Languages Other Than
English)
The ACT Department of Education and Community Services Curriculum Initiatives
Section provides support to teachers and schools on matters relating to racism
through the:
- Executive Officer for Equity (also includes Anti-Sexual Harassment and
Multiculturalism). This officer is responsible for providing policy advice and
support to the Minister and Government. The officer also supports teachers and
schools through the training of contact officers and provides information and
materials including strategies for combating racism in schools.
- The Executive Officer for Languages Other Than English (LOTE). This officer
manages funding and projects for LOTE initiatives. Through the study of
languages students develop understanding and appreciation of other
cultures.
Japan Foundation Intern
The Japan Foundation Intern is a Japanese language adviser, sponsored by the
Japan Foundation. This adviser is involved in teacher professional development
as a language specialist.
Language for Understanding Across the Curriculum (LUAC) Training
Package
The Language for Understanding Across the Curriculum (LUAC) training package
includes the study of research and pedagogy delivery techniques which enables
teachers to address the linguistic and cultural learning patterns of students
from diverse backgrounds.
Staff Development Section, ACT Department of Education and Community
Services
This unit identifies and caters for the professional development needs of
teaching and administrative staff for the ACT Department of Education and
Community Services. It provides administrative support and advice for the
program of system awards and exchanges. It develops and maintains a central
teachers' resource centre and departmental library and provides advice for the
development of school library resource centres.
Teacher In-Country Fellowships to Asia (TICFA)
These fellowships are sponsored by the ACT Department of Education and
Community Services and organised by the Asia Education Foundation.
