Parent and community involvement
Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer (ACLO) Program
Aboriginal Community Liaison Officers are appointed to support Aboriginal
students and their families and provide a link between the school and the
Aboriginal community. Thirty ACLOs are located in districts across the
state.
Aboriginal Cultural Program Funding
The NSW Department of Education and Training’s Aboriginal Programs Unit provides funding to each school district to develop Reconciliation and cultural programs. The Aboriginal Cultural Program values teachers and Aboriginal community members working together to implement projects.

- Harmony Day
Community Information Officers (NESB)
Twenty Community Information Officers (NESB) are based in 14 district offices. These officers assist schools to strengthen links and enhance communication with parents and community members from language backgrounds other than English. They also facilitate the involvement of parents from language backgrounds other than English in NSW government schools.
District Aboriginal Education Advisory Committees
District Aboriginal Education Advisory Committees assist in the selection of those
schools that are provided with additional funds to support literacy, numeracy,
attendance and retention.
Interpreting and Translation Services
The NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) supports the provision of
interpreters and translations in schools to ensure effective communication with
parents and community members from language backgrounds other than English. For
