Understanding current schooling issues for students from non-English speaking
backgrounds involves not just an examination of findings on retention at school
and participation in higher education. The quality of participation at school
also needs to be examined.
This report refers to a wide range of recent Australian studies and draws on
overseas experience to identify the factors which contribute to a supportive
learning environment for students from non-English speaking backgrounds.
