Aboriginal Education Strategic Plan (1997-2002)
A strategic plan defining the outcomes, strategies, responsibilities and
completion targets for Aboriginal Education with particular emphasis on the
creation of a school environment free from racism.
Particular strategies include:
- the provision of Cross-Cultural Awareness training opportunities for
Advanced Skills Teacher, Level 1 candidates
- the development and implementation of an anti-racism policy as part of the
Workplace Harassment Policy
- the implementation of supportive school environment programs to encourage
the retention of Aboriginal students.
Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy (1998)
The focus of the Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy (1998) is
school action to counter discrimination and harassment, including that which is
based on race and ethnicity. Schools and colleges are required to put in place
practices designed to ensure that staff and students are protected from
discrimination and harassment.
Recognising the increasing devolution of management to local level, the
policy provides a framework within which school communities prepare their own
plans to reflect the priorities of their particular situation. Sample procedures
for dealing with complaints have been published in the Anti-Discrimination and
Anti-Harassment Policy support materials.
Equal Employment Opportunity Policy
A policy statement relating to fair and equitable employment practices and
conditions of service for all employees. Employment practices must not
discriminate against individuals on the basis of race, ethnic origin, sexual
preference, religion, political affiliation, age, gender, marital status, family
responsibilities or pregnancy.
Equity in Schooling Policy (1995)
A policy statement ensuring that schools and colleges provide all students
with equitable access to the benefits of education irrespective of their sex,
culture, linguistic background, race, location, socio-economic background or
disability. Target groups identified as experiencing particular educational
disadvantage include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and students
with language backgrounds other than English.
