Aboriginal Education Unit Personnel

Senior Curriculum Officers have responsibilities for early childhood education, literacy, numeracy, retention, Aboriginal studies, cultural education, cultural awareness and developing inclusive practice.

In carrying out these responsibilities they work with school staff, individual teachers and students, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous. They are involved in a number of special programs and projects as well as providing support for Aboriginal Studies programs. A Visiting Speakers' Program provides Aboriginal elders, artisans and artists to work with students and teachers.

Cross-Cultural Awareness Programs

Koori consultants conduct a limited number of Cross-Cultural Awareness Courses for teachers each year. All Aboriginal pedagogical programs have a compulsory one-day cross-cultural component for staff involved. The 2001 program has been inclusive of senior administrators, school and district office personnel.

Principal Education Officer (PEO) English as a Second Language (ESL)

The PEO (ESL) provides school based workshops on racism and advice on programs for students for whom English is a second language.
